Rim Win: Financial Literacy Coming to Rim Classrooms

Grant Funds Staff Training for Financial Literacy Classes

Rim of the World Unified School District has entered into a $45,000 agreement with the California Foundation for History Education (CFHE) to provide financial literacy training to staff during the 2025–2026 school year. This professional development initiative is funded by the Educator Effectiveness Grant and prepares teachers to deliver California’s new personal finance graduation requirement, which takes effect with the Class of 2031 and must be offered as a class by the 2027–2028 school year.

Impact

This is about more than checking a new graduation box. It is about equipping our students with the tools they need to understand money, credit, debt, savings, and investing — skills they will use every day of their life from college to the workforce to everyday life. By starting teacher training now, Rim is getting ahead of the curve and ensuring that our students won’t just comply with state mandates but thrive.

Bringing in CFHE means our teachers will have access to high-quality curriculum design, implementation support, and real-world application strategies. This is not a one-size-fits-all program; it is customized, sustainable financial literacy for the next generation.

Outcome

The Board of Trustees unanimously approved Action Item 11.3 at the June 5, 2025 Board Meeting in Open Session. Expect a classroom-to-career ripple effect: Students making better financial decisions, families engaging in financial discussions, and graduates who are not only college- and career-ready, but money-smart. In an era where financial stress is one of the top barriers to post-secondary success, this initiative is timely and vital.

This action supports the following District Goals:
1 – Student Learning
3 – Highly Qualified Staff
