Adult Education Set to Return Fall 2025
In an update from my September 2024 post, Rim of the World Unified School District is set to bring adult education back to our mountain communities in the fall of 2025, keeping a promise made during my 2024 election campaign. At the June 5, 2025 Board Meeting, the Rim of the World Unified School District formally approved the reopening of Rim Adult Education, backed by a $97,817 grant from the Inland Empire Adult Consortium (IEAC). This program will offer three (3) adult education courses over the next year, including:
- A high school diploma completion course (August 2025)
- An English as a Second Language course (January 2026)
- A Pharmacy Technician Career Technical Education (CTE) course (August 2026)
Impact
This move restores a critical educational lifeline for adults in our Rim communities. Adult education empowers individuals to complete unfinished diplomas, gain workforce certifications, and build English proficiency. In a region with economic and geographic barriers to continuing education, the return of Rim Adult Education is a nod to the importance and value this district places on adult education.
Previously, I wrote about the importance of adult education, emphasizing the need for flexible, high-impact programs that meet people where they are. The district is now delivering exactly that, complete with funding, vision, and a phased rollout that prioritizes access and practicality.
Outcome
The Board of Trustees unanimously approved Action Item 11.2 at the June 5, 2025 Board Meeting in Open Session. Expect to see increased community engagement, higher adult diploma completion rates, and expanded career pathways for residents across the mountain. Education does not stop after high school and Rim of the World Unified is ready to serve learners of all ages.
