At the December 14, 2023 annual organization meeting, the Rim of the World Unified School District Board of Trustees unanimously elected Jordan Zarate as 2024 Board President.
Jordan Zarate represents Trustee Area 5 covering the Running Springs area (Running Springs, Arrowbear Lake, Green Valley Lake). This is the second time Trustee Zarate has been elected to be School Board President, the first time being in 2020.
“Last night, I was elected School Board President at our Annual Organization Meeting. I’m grateful for the faith my fellow trustees have placed in me and am looking forward to my second Board Presidency. My first presidency occurred when the COVID-19 pandemic struck, making it a challenging & difficult year to say the least.
This year will not be short of challenges either as we navigate a new Superintendent search, deal with the prospect of a $68 billion state deficit, and pursue a much-needed bond for our school facilities, just to name a few.
I am keen to tackle these challenges & more so here’s to a 2024 that brings success, increased student services, and better student outcomes!!”
The Board also made the following elections for 2024:
- Jordana Ridland, Trustee Area 2, elected to be Board Clerk.
- Cindy Gardner, Trustee Area 3, elected to be the Voting Representative for the Annual October Meeting of School Representatives.
About the Process
Per Board Bylaw 9100, the Rim of the World Unified School District Board of Trustees holds an Annual Organization Meeting in December. During this meeting, the Board shall:
- Elect a president and a clerk and/or vice president from its members
- Appoint the Superintendent as secretary to the Board
- Authorize signatures
- Approve a schedule of regular meetings for the year and a Board governance calendar stating the time when the Board will address important governance matters
- Designate Board representatives to serve on committees or commissions of the district, other public agencies, or organizations with which the district partners or collaborates
- Review and/or consider resources that define and clarify the Board’s governance and leadership roles and responsibilities including, but not limited to, governance standards, meeting protocols, Board rules and bylaws, and other Board development materials
The election takes place during Open Session and the public is welcomed to attend.
